Capiz is the name of the town on the island of Panay near where Windowpane Oysters were originally harvested. They are found mostly in the shallow coastal waters of the Philippine and Indonesian island chains. They are plentiful and are used for food. There are no regulations or environmental concerns related to their use in this traditional native Philippine handcraft.
Capiz seashells are translucent enough to allow light to pass through, and they were used to make windows in Philippine's colonial days. Hence the name 'Windowpane Oysters'. Some of these windows can still be seen in older houses throughout the Philippines.
Please note that the product you receive may have slight color variations as each individual box is painted by hand.
